Well said. Maybe its time freeware communities such as OpenOffice make a HUGE push of functionality, portability, efficiency, and ability to work with Active Directory & Such to challenge MS.
I thought about that as I wrote it. The main problem is that any application that matters will need to interoperate seamlessly with outlook clients and other exchange servers. It has got to deal with appointments, resources, etc, exactly the same way Outlook does. Since the details of all that is built on a closed platform, it won't be easy. You can try to compensate by interoperating with the open portions of Active Directory, but that wouldn't really be enough.
That said, I really don't think it would be hard to outperform Exchange/Outlook, and you could provide similar functionality in a different way, but the real problem is interoperating.

I'm not gay, but I take offense to the idea of equating homosexual activity with "sleeping with hookers, and intravenous drug users". Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they sleep around, just like someone who is straight doesn't just sleep around. This is something that you should probably reflect on, in that gay people can be just as likely or not to sleep around and behave in risky ways as straight people can.

If you've ever given blood, which I have many times, you would know that you have to fill out a form every time which asks you questions based on relatively high-risk behaviors, including sex-for-money, intravenous drug use, and male-to-male sex. That doesn't make them equated and I see nothing in Socratic's post that would imply s/he felt they were.

I don't know if this was listen but i was browseing the apple downloads page and came across this (http://www.objectpark.net/)
it puts a mini ical icon in the task bar. Once clicked, a mini calender pops up and u can hover over the dates and it shows whats scheduled. I like because it shows the real date in the task bar for easy refference. Check it out

I finally found an answer to this question on an Apple site. Nothing is transparent and it took me a while. The answer is: I didn't have the earphone connection to the unit snapped into place. It was connected but who knew it had to be pushed firmly to snap in. I do now! :p

I can't remember for sure, but I think there was some debate about this when leopard or snow leopard came out. Either activity monitor or the OS changed how the nice processes are reported.
I'm pretty sure it's normal and folding still gives up processing when required.

If the user (who knows nothing of design, fonts, color, etc.) has control over the presentation of a company's image then there is absolutely no point in having a designer. Might as well have the intern throw something up there. Think before you write.
That's good advice; why don't you take it? I've done quite a bit of professional design...print and web...and the user doesn't have "control over the presentation of a company's image" on a web site; the user has control (or should have control) over aspects of how that image is presented. That's why you have the ability to override text sizes and style sheets. As I said, the web is not print and should not be treated as such. If you have anything to do with web design and you don't understand that, I'd suggest getting out of the business before you inflict any more harm.

I hope to get there at about 7AM.
I was able to register about 7AM on the 15th, but have not recieved any confirmation. Hope that all is in order.
Just updated the software on my 3G, but am looking forward to seeing what it is like on the new hardware. Sounds Really Good so far...

If I understand it right, it's randomly chosen from the list of songs that has only 1 recommendation (the submitter's) so that it gets more exposure than the once around on the main page. The rotation happens at 3:00 a.m. EST, if I'm not mistaken.

So Samsung believed Apple was violating it's patents all this time but decided to do nothing about it. Now that they have been pushed they decide to act. Sounds to me they are trying to find whatever they can to bite back at Apple.
IF companies sued others for perceived infringement of patents, we wouldn't have anything new to buy.
Sony never sued asus for making clone laptops that were direct copies of sony vaio.

samsung is #2 patents holdings in USA. apple barely broke into top 50 recently.

Company A has a patent (or more) that Co. B wants. B uses A's patents without consent. A waits. A finds a patent B has that they want. A uses B's patents without consent. Then A sues B or vice-verse. The two co. get together and work out a licensing deal. Profit.

I bet samsung told apple (in private negotiations) to come back with more patents if they want cross-license deal with samsung. and apple prob got pissed for being put down like that...
